To get a UK visit visa from Pakistan, you apply for the Standard Visitor visa online on GOV.UK, pay the fee, and then give your fingerprints and photo at a UK visa application centre in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi or Mirpur. The decision depends on your documents: you must show a clear reason for the visit, enough money for the trip, and strong reasons to return to Pakistan.

Based on official guidance from GOV.UK. Last updated October 2026. Visa rules, fees and waiting times change, so always confirm on the official site before you apply, or ask us on WhatsApp for the latest checklist.

Key points

  • Pakistani passport holders must get this visa before they travel. The UK's electronic travel authorisation (ETA) is not an option for them.
  • The Standard Visitor visa covers tourism, visiting family or friends, and many business visits. You cannot work in the UK on it.
  • You can usually stay up to 6 months per visit. Frequent visitors can apply for a long-term visit visa valid for 2, 5 or 10 years, but each stay is still limited to 6 months.
  • There is no fixed minimum bank balance. Your money must make sense for your income and your trip.
  • A sponsor or invitation letter helps when family or friends in the UK host or pay for you.
  • Every answer in your form must match your documents.
  • Always declare previous refusals and travel history.

How to apply for a UK visit visa from Pakistan: step by step

  1. Check that this is the right visa. Read the official Standard Visitor visa guidance on GOV.UK. If you plan to study for a full degree, you need a different visa; see our UK student visa guide.
  2. Fill in the online form. Apply on the official GOV.UK application page. You answer questions about your job, income, family, travel history and trip plans. GOV.UK says the earliest you can apply is 3 months before you travel.
  3. Pay the visa fee. Check the current fee on GOV.UK before you pay.
  4. Book your appointment. After you pay, GOV.UK sends you to the visa application centre's website to book an appointment in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi or Mirpur. At the time of writing, these centres are run by VFS Global, a private company contracted by the Home Office. Always use the link GOV.UK gives you. Our UK visa appointment booking guide explains this step.
  5. Upload or bring your documents. Follow the instructions you receive after booking. Usually you can upload scanned copies yourself before the appointment, or use the paid scanning service at the centre.
  6. Attend the appointment. You give your fingerprints and photo. Bring your passport and appointment confirmation.
  7. Wait for the decision. The decision is made by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). Check the current visa processing times on GOV.UK.

Tips for the online form

  • Write your name exactly as it is in your passport.
  • Give your income and expenses honestly. They must match your bank statements and salary slips.
  • Declare every previous visa refusal the form asks about, from the UK or any other country, even old ones.
  • Give realistic trip dates. Many visitors from Islamabad and Rawalpindi travel for a family wedding, a graduation or the birth of a grandchild. Say so clearly.
  • Do not buy non-refundable tickets before you get a decision. A simple travel plan is enough when you apply.

Documents checklist

UKVI publishes an official guide to supporting documents for visitors. A typical file from Pakistan includes:

  • Passport valid for your whole stay, with one page blank on both sides for the visa, plus any old passports with previous visas.
  • Bank statements and, if you have them, savings certificates or other assets.
  • Job proof: employer's letter with your role, start date and approved leave, plus recent salary slips.
  • Business proof: business registration, tax returns and business bank statements.
  • Retired applicants: pension documents and proof of other income.
  • Family ties: NADRA Family Registration Certificate, marriage certificate, children's school letters.
  • Property: property papers, if you own property in Pakistan.
  • Trip plan: a short itinerary and, if someone invites you, their invitation or sponsor letter.

Any document that is not in English, such as a property paper in Urdu, needs a full English translation that can be checked. Include the original as well as the translation.

Sponsor and invitation letters

A sponsor or invitation letter is not always required. But if a relative or friend in the UK is hosting you or paying for part of your trip, it gives the caseworker useful context.

What the letter should say

  • The host's full name, UK address and immigration status (for example, British citizen or settled).
  • Your relationship to the host.
  • The purpose and dates of the visit.
  • Where you will stay.
  • Which costs the host will cover, if any.

Documents from the host

  • A copy of their passport, or proof of their UK status.
  • Proof of their address, such as a council tax bill or tenancy agreement.
  • If they are paying: recent bank statements and payslips.
  • Proof of the relationship, such as birth or marriage certificates.
  • For events: the wedding card, graduation letter or similar.

Even with a sponsor, your own ties to Pakistan still matter a lot.

Bank statements: what the caseworker looks for

There is no fixed minimum balance for a UK visit visa, and no "magic number" that makes approval certain. The caseworker asks a simple question: does this person have enough money for this trip without working in the UK, and does that money make sense for their life?

  • Regular income: salary, business income, pension or rent should show clearly in the statements.
  • Normal history: recent statements with everyday spending look more genuine than an account that was opened or filled just before applying. Many applicants provide around six months of statements.
  • Explained deposits: if a large amount came in, such as from a property sale, a committee or a family gift, explain it and add proof.
  • Balance in proportion: the trip cost should be reasonable compared with your income and savings.
  • Bank stamp: statements stamped or verified by your bank, plus a bank maintenance certificate if you can get one.

Never borrow money just to show it in your account. Caseworkers look closely at sudden deposits, and borrowed "show money" can lead to refusal.

Common reasons UK visit visas are refused

  • Weak ties to Pakistan: the caseworker is not convinced you will return.
  • Unclear finances: sudden deposits, income that does not match the statements, or no clear source of funds.
  • Inconsistent information: dates, income or job details that differ between the form and the documents.
  • Undeclared history: not mentioning a previous refusal can be treated as deception, which can block future applications for years.
  • Unclear purpose: no clear reason for the visit, or a trip that looks too expensive for your income.
  • Missing documents: no translations, or no proof of the sponsor's status.

If you are refused, read the refusal letter carefully. Visit visa refusals usually cannot be appealed, but you can reapply with stronger evidence that answers each point in the letter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What documents are required for a UK visit visa from Pakistan?

You need a valid passport, recent bank statements, proof of your job, business or pension, and proof of family ties in Pakistan such as a NADRA Family Registration Certificate. If someone in the UK invites or sponsors you, add their letter, proof of their UK status and, if they are paying, their financial documents.

How much bank balance do I need for a UK visit visa from Pakistan?

There is no fixed minimum balance for a UK visit visa. You must show you can pay for the trip without working in the UK, and the money should make sense for your income, savings and family commitments.

Can I apply for a UK visit visa without a sponsor?

Yes. A sponsor is not required if you can pay for the trip yourself. If a relative or friend in the UK is hosting you or paying for part of the trip, their invitation letter and documents give the caseworker useful context.

Why are UK visit visas from Pakistan refused?

Common reasons are weak ties to Pakistan, unclear or unexplained bank deposits, information that does not match between the form and the documents, and not declaring previous refusals.

Can I reapply after a UK visit visa refusal?

Yes. Visit visa refusals usually cannot be appealed, but you can make a new application. Read the refusal letter carefully and answer each concern with stronger evidence, because an unchanged file is likely to be refused again.

Can an agent guarantee my UK visit visa?

No. Only UK Visas and Immigration decides on visas. IVS reviews and prepares your file so it is complete and consistent, but no honest consultant can promise approval.
