UK visit visa refused from Pakistan: how to read the refusal letter and reapply, with Tower Bridge in London

If your UK visit visa was refused from Pakistan, it is not a ban: you can apply again when you are ready. Most visit-visa refusals carry no right of appeal and no administrative review (the last section of your letter says which applies to you), so what to do next is a new application that fixes every point the officer raised. Send the same file again and you will most likely get the same answer.

Based on official guidance from GOV.UK (Appendix V: Visitor). Last updated October 2026. Visa rules, fees and waiting times change, so always confirm on the official site before you apply, or ask us on WhatsApp for the latest checklist.

Key points

  • A refusal is not a ban. There is no fixed waiting period to reapply.
  • Visit-visa refusals generally have no appeal and no administrative review. Your letter says which applies.
  • Judicial review is the only legal challenge. In practice it needs a UK solicitor and has a strict time limit.
  • Fix every reason in the letter before you reapply, and declare the refusal on future forms.
  • Never use fake or borrowed documents. A deception refusal can keep you out of the UK for years.

This guide from IVS – Islamabad Visa Services explains the letter line by line and when to reapply.

UK visit visa refused? Start with the refusal letter

Read it twice, with a pen. Most refusal notices follow the same order.

1. The decision

The opening lines name the rules used, normally Appendix V: Visitor.

2. The officer's reasons

This part matters most: what the officer saw in your file and why it left them unsure, for example "your bank statement shows a large deposit". Each such sentence is a question your next application must answer.

3. The paragraph references

The reasons end with the rule you did not meet, usually V 4.2, the genuine-visitor test. In plain English:

  • V 4.2(a): the officer isn't satisfied you will leave the UK at the end of your visit, usually because your ties to Pakistan (job, business, family, property) looked weak.
  • V 4.2(c): the officer doubts the purpose you gave is your real one.
  • V 4.2(e): funds. The officer isn't satisfied you can pay for the trip, or can't see where the money came from.
  • V 4.3: support from a sponsor, usually your son or daughter in the UK, who must be able and willing to pay.
  • Part Suitability (SUI paragraphs): the general grounds for refusal. Since 11 November 2025 they sit in Part Suitability of the Immigration Rules, which replaced Part 9, so letters issued before then may cite Part 9 instead. SUI 9 is about deception; SUI 10 covers false information, false documents or leaving out a relevant fact, such as an earlier refusal. Either one means the officer believes something in your file was not true or not complete. Take advice first.

Paragraph numbers can change, so check yours against the current Appendix V on GOV.UK.

4. Future applications and appeal rights

A line near the end usually says future applications will be considered on their merits, but you should take the points raised into account: fix them first. The last section states your rights. For most visit-visa refusals made from Pakistan it says there is no right of appeal or right to administrative review. If yours says otherwise, follow the deadline printed in it.

Why UK visit visas from Pakistan get refused, and the fix

Sudden deposits before you applied

A large amount lands in your account just before you apply, and nothing explains it. Officers look hard for borrowed "show money". Fix: let your account return to its normal pattern, and document every large credit: a plot sale deed, a gratuity letter, business invoices, or a written note for a committee (BC) payout.

A parent with no money of their own

A mother who doesn't work, or a retired father, whose child in the UK pays for everything. That is allowed, but the officer asks: can the sponsor really pay, and what brings the parent home? Fix: the sponsor's bank statements, payslips and proof of UK status, plus the parent's own ties: pension credits, property papers, family in Islamabad or Rawalpindi.

Missing sponsor documents

An invitation letter alone proves little. If your host pays, their statements, payslips and address proof must be in the file. Our invitation letter guide for parents lists what the host should send.

Job details that don't match

The form says "manager", the employer letter says "officer". The letter's salary differs from your statement. A shop is "running" but has no FBR returns or business account. Fix: one consistent story across your form, employer letter, salary slips, bank statements and tax records.

A vague plan

"Tourism" with no plan, or a long trip when your employer letter shows short leave. Fix: a simple plan, a trip length that fits your leave, and proof of the reason: a graduation invitation, a wedding card or a hospital letter with a grandchild's due date.

A past refusal you didn't declare

The UK form asks about earlier refusals, including other countries. A hidden US or Schengen refusal that comes to light is treated far more seriously than the refusal itself. Fix: declare every refusal, with the country and year. For the full document list, use our UK visit visa documents checklist.

Send us your refusal letter

Send us a photo of your refusal letter on WhatsApp, with your passport number covered. A consultant will go through each reason with you and tell you which documents could answer it. Only UK Visas and Immigration decides; our job is to make your next file complete, consistent and honest.

Never use fake or borrowed documents

After a refusal, someone will offer to "arrange" a bank statement, an employer letter or a sponsor. Say no. If the officer finds false documents or information, the refusal can be made under Part Suitability of the Immigration Rules on GOV.UK: SUI 9 for deception, or SUI 10 for false documents, false information or a hidden fact. A deception finding can block UK visas for years. A weak but honest file can be fixed; a deception refusal is far harder to recover from.

Can you appeal a UK visit visa refusal?

Usually not. The only legal challenge is judicial review: a UK judge checks whether the decision was lawful and fair, for example whether the officer ignored a document you sent. It doesn't weigh new evidence; if you win, the decision is normally just taken again. You would normally need a UK solicitor, it is expensive, and there is a strict time limit from the decision date. IVS doesn't do this legal work. For most families, a stronger new application is the practical route.

When to reapply after a UK visa refusal

There is no fixed waiting period, but reapply only when something has changed. For each reason in your letter, ask: which new document answers this? If you can't name one, wait.

  • Reapply soon if the problem was papers you already have: sponsor statements, proof of status, or the source of one deposit.
  • Wait if the problem was your money pattern or your ties: give your account a few months of normal activity, or wait until your job or event date is settled.
  • Get advice first if the letter mentions Part Suitability, SUI 9, SUI 10 or deception (or Part 9, on a letter issued before 11 November 2025).

Declare the refusal whenever a future form asks, for the UK, the US, a Schengen country or Canada. Add a short, factual cover letter listing each reason and the new evidence for it.

Say a retired teacher in Rawalpindi is refused under V 4.2(a) and (e): her son in Manchester pays, but sent only an invitation letter, and one large deposit is unexplained. Her second file adds his payslips, statements and proof of status, her pension credits, the sale deed behind the deposit, and a cover letter. Same person, much clearer file. (Refused for Canada too? See our Canada visitor visa refusal guide.)

Refused before Christmas? Be realistic

Many Islamabad and Rawalpindi families apply in October or November for a December visit. You can apply up to 3 months before you travel, so a quick reapplication is possible when the fix is simple. Check GOV.UK's current visa processing times and don't book non-refundable flights before your decision. If the fix needs months of bank history, a strong file for a later visit beats a rushed one. Our UK visit visa guide covers the full application.

Frequently Asked Questions

My UK visit visa was refused. What should I do now?

Read your refusal letter carefully and list every reason the officer gave. A refusal is not a ban, so you can apply again, but only after you can answer each reason with new evidence or changed circumstances.

Can I appeal a UK visit visa refusal from Pakistan?

Usually not. Visit-visa refusals generally carry no right of appeal and no administrative review, and the last section of your letter says which applies. The only legal challenge is judicial review, which in practice needs a UK solicitor and has a strict time limit.

How soon can I reapply after a UK visa refusal?

There is no fixed waiting period. Reapply when something has changed and you can answer every point in the letter; sending the same file again usually brings the same answer.

What does V 4.2 mean in a UK visa refusal letter?

V 4.2 in Appendix V: Visitor is the genuine-visitor test. Point (a) is about whether you will leave the UK at the end of your visit, (c) about whether your purpose is genuine, and (e) about whether you can pay for the trip. Paragraph numbers can change, so check yours against the current Appendix V on GOV.UK.

Do I have to declare a UK visa refusal on other visa applications?

Yes, whenever a form asks, whether for the UK, the US, a Schengen country or Canada. A hidden refusal that comes to light is treated far more seriously than the refusal itself and can lead to a deception refusal.

My refusal letter mentions Part Suitability or SUI 10. What does that mean?

Part Suitability is the part of the UK Immigration Rules that holds the general grounds for refusal. It replaced Part 9 from 11 November 2025, so older letters may say Part 9 instead. SUI 9 is about deception, and SUI 10 covers false information, false documents or leaving out a relevant fact, such as an earlier refusal. These refusals can affect future UK applications, so take advice before you apply again and read the current Part Suitability text on GOV.UK.

UK visa reject ho gaya, ab kya karein?

Pehle apna refusal letter ghaur se parhein aur officer ki har wajah note karein. Visit visa refusal par aam tor par appeal nahi hoti, is liye har point ka naya saboot le kar hi dobara apply karein. Refusal letter ki photo (passport number chupa kar) WhatsApp 0318-0056560 par bhejein, hum dekh kar batayenge ke kaun se documents har wajah ka jawab de sakte hain.

Can an agent promise me a visa?

No — only the embassy decides, and for UK visas that means UK Visas and Immigration. An agent who promises approval after a refusal is a warning sign. IVS reviews and prepares your file so it is complete, consistent and honest.
