Identity and travel

• A current passport valid for your whole stay, with a blank page for the visa.
• All your old passports, especially ones with previous UK, Schengen, US or Gulf visas.
• Your CNIC and, for families, the Family Registration Certificate (FRC) or birth and marriage certificates.

Money: show you can pay for the trip

• Personal bank statements covering recent months (6 months is common), stamped by the bank, showing regular income.
• Salary slips and an employment letter (job title, salary, approved leave and that your job continues after the trip).
• Business owners: registration documents, tax returns (FBR) and business bank statements.
• Retired parents: pension documents and savings, plus any sponsor evidence.

Purpose of the visit and your host

• For family visits: an invitation letter from your relative with their address, relationship to you and plans for your stay.
• Your host's passport or BRP/eVisa details, proof of their status in the UK and proof of address.
• If your host is paying for part of the trip: their bank statements and payslips.
• A simple travel plan: dates, where you will stay and what you will do.

Ties to Pakistan

• Proof of your job, business, studies or property in Pakistan.
• Family responsibilities here (spouse, children, elderly parents).

How to apply from Pakistan, step by step

1. Check that the Standard Visitor visa matches your purpose.
2. Collect your documents using the checklist above; translate any document not in English.
3. Complete the online application on GOV.UK and pay the fee.
4. Book and attend your biometrics appointment at the visa application centre.
5. Upload or submit your supporting documents as instructed, then wait for the decision.

Common mistakes that lead to UK visa refusals

• Unexplained cash deposits just before applying. Officers look for steady, explainable money.
• Documents that don't match: salary on the letter differs from the bank statement, or dates differ between form and invitation.
• A vague purpose: no clear plan, or a trip length that doesn't fit your leave or job.
• Hiding a previous refusal from any country. Always declare it honestly.
• Weak ties to Pakistan with nothing to show you will return.

When to start for Christmas and summer visits

Because you can apply only 3 months before you travel, timing matters. For a Christmas visit, gather documents in September and apply in early October; for summer, start in March and apply in April. Use the weeks before you apply to fix weak spots: stop unusual cash deposits, get an up-to-date employment letter and ask your host for their documents.

Visiting children who study or work in the UK

Parents visiting a son or daughter on a student or work visa are a very common case. The invitation should explain your child's status in the UK, where you will stay, who pays, and the dates. If your child is paying, include their payslips or bank statements and show they can afford it alongside their own living costs.

Before you fly: final checklist

• Printed and digital copies of your visa or approval email.
• Passport, plus old passports if they show useful travel history.
• Return ticket, hotel bookings and travel insurance documents.
• Enough money or cards for your stay, and your host's contact details.
• Your host's address and phone number, in case the border officer asks.
