How to apply for a Canada visitor visa from Pakistan
- Apply online through the IRCC Portal. You need scanned copies of your documents and a card to pay.
- Pay the application fee and, in most cases, the biometrics fee.
- Wait for your biometrics instruction letter, then book your appointment at a visa application centre as soon as possible.
- Give your fingerprints and photo. Most applicants aged 14 to 79 need biometrics.
- IRCC may ask for more documents, a medical exam or your passport. Reply quickly.

Canada visitor visa documents checklist
- Valid passport and all old passports with previous visas.
- Bank statements, salary slips and an employment or business letter showing you can pay for the trip.
- Tax returns and property documents that show your ties to Pakistan.
- A clear travel plan: dates, where you will stay, what you will do.
- For family visits: an invitation letter from your relative, with a copy of their Canadian status and proof of address.
- If your relative is paying: their proof of income and bank statements.
- For parents visiting children: CNIC, FRC or birth certificates showing the relationship.
The letter of explanation: your chance to tell your story
IRCC doesn't interview most visitors, so a short, honest letter of explanation helps the officer understand your trip: who you are, why you are going, how long you will stay, who pays, and why you will come back. Keep it to one page and make sure every fact matches your documents.
Common reasons Canada visitor visas are refused
- The officer isn't satisfied you will leave Canada at the end of your stay (weak ties to Pakistan).
- Your financial documents don't show enough stable funds, or large unexplained deposits appear.
- The purpose of the visit isn't clear or doesn't fit your profile.
- Missing documents, or information that doesn't match between forms.
If you were refused, read the reasons in your refusal letter carefully. Reapplying with the same file rarely helps; fix the weak points first.
Timeline: when to apply
Processing times change often; check the current time on Canada.ca and add time for your biometrics appointment. For graduations, weddings or a new baby in the family, apply as soon as the date is fixed.
Parents and grandparents: long visits
If you are a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and plan long, repeated visits, Canada also has a Super Visa. It has its own requirements, including medical insurance and income rules for your child; ask us whether it suits you better than a regular visitor visa.
