Yes, you can apply for a visit visa from Pakistan without a job or a salary slip. A visit visa for a housewife from Pakistan, a retired parent or a self-employed person is judged on the same test as anyone else's: who pays for the trip, why you will come back to Pakistan, and where the money in your file came from. Your documents need to answer those three questions clearly. Only the embassy decides, but a missing salary slip alone doesn't stop you applying.

This guide from IVS – Islamabad Visa Services shows what that evidence looks like for each profile and the mistakes that get these files refused.

Based on official guidance from GOV.UK's guide to supporting documents for UK visitors. Last updated October 2026. Visa rules, fees and waiting times change, so always confirm on the official site before you apply, or ask us on WhatsApp for the latest checklist.

Key points

  • You don't need a job to apply, but you need proof of who pays, why you will return and where the money came from.
  • A husband, son or daughter can pay, but their letter needs their bank statements, income proof and proof of your relationship, usually the NADRA Family Registration Certificate (FRC).
  • Your own ties still count: a pension, property, the family who lives with you, past travel.
  • Business owners and freelancers prove income with an NTN, FBR tax returns, business registration and a business bank account.

The three questions every visa officer asks

  • Who pays? You, a family member, or both. The UK's visitor rules (Appendix V: Visitor) allow a third party to pay if they have a genuine personal relationship with you, are not breaking UK visa rules themselves, and can and will support the visit.
  • Why will you come back? Family in Islamabad, a home you run, property, a pension, a business.
  • Where did the money come from? Every large entry on a statement should have a paper behind it.

Visit visa for a housewife from Pakistan

Most housewives apply with their husband, or a son or daughter abroad, as sponsor. The sponsor's papers answer the money question; your own papers answer the ties question. You need both.

The sponsor letter from your husband

A short letter, signed and dated, that gives:

  • His full name, CNIC number, phone number and his job or business.
  • Your full name as in your passport, and that you are his wife.
  • The purpose and dates of your trip, and where you will stay.
  • Which costs he pays: flights, stay, daily spending.
  • That the family stays in Pakistan and you return on the date given.

Attach his CNIC copy, his bank statement stamped by the branch, and his income proof: salary slips and an employer letter, or the business papers listed below. A son or daughter abroad writes the same kind of letter; our UK invitation letter guide for parents has a sample. Some Schengen embassies use their own sponsorship or hosting form instead of a plain letter, so check your country's checklist.

Your own ties

  • Children at school in Pakistan (a letter from the school helps).
  • Property or a plot in your name, or your share in the family home.
  • Your own bank account, even with a small balance, if it shows normal use.
  • Old passports with earlier visas and return stamps.

The NADRA FRC

The FRC lists your family as registered with NADRA, so one page proves your marriage and your children. Get it in English from a NADRA Registration Centre in Islamabad or Rawalpindi, or through NADRA's Pak-ID app if you live abroad, and check every name against your passports. Some embassies want it apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (see the country notes).

Visit visa for retired parents from Pakistan

A son or daughter abroad can pay, but the officer still asks what brings you home. Collect:

  • Pension proof: your pension payment order, pension book or EOBI record, and the bank statement where the pension arrives each month.
  • Property: the registry, fard or transfer letter (CDA or housing society) for your house or land, and a rent agreement if you earn rent.
  • Family in Pakistan: a spouse, other children or grandchildren who stay behind, shown on your FRC.
  • Past travel: old passports with earlier visas.

Why the parent's own documents matter

A sponsor who can pay answers only the money question. For a UK visit, the officer also has to be satisfied that you will leave at the end of your trip, and that depends on your own life in Pakistan, not on your son's or daughter's bank statement. If your form says "no savings, no property, no income" and nothing more, the officer has very little on your side of the file to weigh.

Most parents have more than they think: a pension, a joint account, a share in the family home, a spouse who stays behind, grandchildren they help look after, a home they run. Write each one on the form and add a paper for it. Ties don't have to be income to count.

Self-employed visa documents: NTN, FBR returns and business proof

Whether you run a shop in Raja Bazaar, a clinic in G-9 or a software business from home, the officer wants proof that the business is real and earns what you say.

  • NTN certificate and your FBR income tax returns with the IRIS acknowledgement. Your checklist says how many years.
  • Business registration: an SECP certificate of incorporation for a company, chamber of commerce membership (for example the Islamabad or Rawalpindi chamber), or a registered partnership deed.
  • Business bank account statement alongside your personal one.
  • A letter on company letterhead giving your role, when the business started, who runs it while you're away and your return date.
  • Freelancers: earnings reports from Upwork, Fiverr or your clients, contracts or invoices, and bank entries that match each payment.

GOV.UK's guide suggests business registration documents or recent invoices to confirm ongoing self-employment. The figures must agree: if your tax return shows a small income but your statement shows large deposits, expect questions.

Country notes

UK

The UK sets no fixed bank balance for visitors. You can apply up to 3 months before you travel, so for a Christmas visit start collecting your sponsor's documents now. Full list: UK visit visa documents checklist.

Schengen

Each embassy sets its own checklist. The Italian Embassy in Islamabad's checklist for tourism and family visits asks for the FRC issued in English by NADRA and apostilled, and the Czech Republic's checklist for Pakistan lists the English FRC as proof of ties. Several also ask for pension statements and business registration. Not sure where to apply? Read which Schengen country to apply to.

USA

The decision is made mostly at the interview. Be ready to explain in your own words who pays, what your husband or business does and why you will return, matching your DS-160. See our US visa interview tips.

Canada

IRCC's proof of funds guidance lets officers accept money from family and weigh a mix of documents. A parent's file still needs ties to Pakistan. See the Canada visitor visa requirements.

Common mistakes in files without a salary

  • A sponsor letter with no bank statements or income proof behind it.
  • Declaring "no savings, no property, no income" when you do have a pension, a joint account or a share in the family home.
  • Money moved into your account just before you apply, with no paper showing where it came from.
  • FRC names spelled differently from the passport, or an Urdu FRC where the checklist asks for English.
  • A job letter from a relative's company you don't work at. A false document can turn a refusal into a ban.
  • Reapplying with the same file after a refusal. Fix each reason first, as our Canada refusal guide explains.

How IVS helps with your visit visa

IVS – Islamabad Visa Services has helped more than 2,000 clients since 2022. We tell you which documents fit your profile, check your sponsor's papers and yours together so the story is consistent, prepare your file and guide you through booking your appointment, in English, Urdu or Punjabi. For Canada, IVS works with licensed RCICs on our panel as part-time contractors; when your application needs an authorised representative, a panel RCIC handles the representation with IRCC. IVS itself is not an RCIC.

Only the embassy decides; we make your file complete, consistent and honest. See all the countries we help with, or visit us at Margalla Plaza, F-10 Markaz, Islamabad.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a housewife apply for a visit visa from Pakistan?

Yes. A housewife can apply without a job. Her file needs to show who pays, usually her husband or a child abroad, with their bank statements and income proof. Add the NADRA FRC in English as proof of relationship, and her own ties such as children at school, property or past travel. Only the embassy decides.

Is a sponsor letter from my husband enough for a visit visa?

No. The letter must come with his CNIC copy, his bank statement and his income proof, plus your FRC to show the marriage. Your own ties to Pakistan still need to be in the file.

Do retired parents need their own bank balance for a UK visit visa?

The UK sets no fixed amount, and a son or daughter can pay. But the officer also looks at the parent's own ties, such as a pension, property and family in Pakistan, so document them even if the sponsor pays.

What documents does a self-employed person need for a visit visa from Pakistan?

Usually an NTN certificate, FBR income tax returns, business registration (SECP certificate, chamber membership or partnership deed), a business bank statement and a letter on company letterhead. Freelancers add platform earnings reports and invoices that match their bank entries.

Does the FRC need to be in English or apostilled for a visa?

Many checklists ask for the FRC issued in English by NADRA, and the Italian Embassy in Islamabad asks for it apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Check your embassy's checklist, or ask us on WhatsApp 0318-0056560.

Can an agent promise me a visa?

No — only the embassy decides. An honest agent can check that your sponsor's papers and your own are complete, consistent and true, which is what IVS does.
