To get an Australia visit visa from Pakistan, you apply online for the Visitor visa (subclass 600) through an ImmiAccount on the Department of Home Affairs website. For a holiday or a family visit, you will usually choose the Tourist stream (no sponsor needed) or the Sponsored family stream (an eligible relative in Australia sponsors you). In most cases you will also give biometrics after you apply, and your file must show that your visit is genuine and temporary.

Based on official guidance from the Australian Department of Home Affairs. Last updated October 2026. Visa rules, fees and waiting times change, so always confirm on the official site before you apply, or ask us on WhatsApp for the latest checklist.

  • Visa: Visitor visa (subclass 600), applied for online through ImmiAccount.
  • Main streams for Pakistanis: Tourist, Sponsored family and Business visitor.
  • Sponsor: only needed for the Sponsored family stream (your relative signs Form 1149). The Tourist stream needs no sponsor.
  • Biometrics: usually requested after you apply. Your request letter tells you whether to visit a biometrics collection centre in Pakistan or use the Australian Immi App.
  • Grant: if approved, the visa is electronic. There is no sticker in your passport.
  • Money: no fixed bank balance is published. Show enough funds for your stay, with a clear source.

This guide from IVS – Islamabad Visa Services explains which stream to choose, how ImmiAccount works, and the documents families in Islamabad and Rawalpindi usually prepare.

Which subclass 600 stream should you choose?

The Visitor visa (subclass 600) has several streams. Choose the one that matches your real purpose.

Tourist stream (apply outside Australia)

For holidays, sightseeing, or visiting family and friends. You don't need a formal sponsor. If you are staying with relatives, they can still write an invitation letter and show their support.

Sponsored family stream

For visiting family when a relative in Australia agrees to sponsor you. The sponsor must be 18 or older, settled in Australia, and an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. Eligible relatives include a parent, child, brother, sister, grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew.

The sponsor signs Form 1149 and takes on formal responsibilities. In some cases the department asks the sponsor to pay a security bond, which is returned if you follow your visa conditions. This stream also comes with a "No Further Stay" condition (8503), which means you cannot apply for most other visas while in Australia. Read the Sponsored family stream page carefully before choosing it.

Business visitor stream

For short business activities such as meetings, conferences, trade fairs or contract talks. You cannot work in Australia on this visa.

The Frequent traveller and Approved Destination Status streams are for certain other nationalities, so most Pakistani applicants use the Tourist or Sponsored family stream. Check the stream list on the official Home Affairs page.

How to apply through ImmiAccount: step by step

  1. Create your ImmiAccount. Follow the official steps to create an ImmiAccount. Use an email address you check every day — all messages from the department come there.
  2. Sponsored family stream only: ask your sponsor in Australia to fill in and sign Form 1149, then attach it to your application. Check the Home Affairs page for any change to this step before you start.
  3. Start a new application. Choose Visitor visa (subclass 600) and the correct stream.
  4. Fill in the form honestly. Include all family members (even those not travelling), your full travel history, your job details and any previous visa refusals for any country.
  5. Attach your documents. Upload clear scans, sorted into the right categories. Urdu documents need an English translation.
  6. Pay the visa application charge. Pay online in ImmiAccount. Check the current charge on the Home Affairs website first.
  7. Give biometrics. Most applicants receive a biometrics request letter after they lodge. Follow it exactly: it tells you whether to visit a biometrics collection centre in Pakistan or use the Australian Immi App. Our Australia visa biometrics appointment guide for Pakistan explains booking, centres and what to bring. IVS is independent and not affiliated with the Australian Government or its biometrics contractor.
  8. Health examination, if required. Some applicants, for example those planning a longer stay, must see an approved panel doctor. Follow the health instructions shown in your ImmiAccount.
  9. Wait for the decision. Reply quickly to any request for more information. If approved, the visa is electronic. You receive a grant letter by email, and there is no sticker in your passport.

Documents checklist for an Australia visit visa from Pakistan

Identity

  • Scans of every page of your current passport
  • Pages of old passports that show visas and travel stamps
  • CNIC and Family Registration Certificate (FRC) from NADRA
  • Nikah Nama or NADRA marriage registration certificate, if married
  • For children under 18: NADRA B-Form (Child Registration Certificate) and, if a parent is not travelling, that parent's consent on Form 1229
  • Recent passport-size photo

Financial documents

  • Personal bank statements for recent months, stamped by the bank
  • Bank account maintenance letter
  • Salary slips, or business bank statements for business owners
  • FBR tax returns and NTN certificate, if you have them
  • Property documents, if you own property

Ties to Pakistan and purpose

  • Employment letter with your position, salary and approved leave
  • Business registration for business owners; enrolment letter for students
  • Simple itinerary: dates, cities and where you will stay
  • Invitation letter from your family or friends in Australia (if visiting them)
  • Cover letter explaining your purpose, who is paying, and why you will return to Pakistan
  • Travel health insurance for your whole stay (strongly advised; some visitors must keep it as a visa condition)

Sponsor or host documents

  • Signed Form 1149 (Sponsored family stream only)
  • Proof of the sponsor's or host's status in Australia, such as an Australian passport, citizenship certificate or permanent visa
  • Proof of your relationship (for example, birth certificates or an FRC that shows the link)
  • The sponsor's financial documents, if they are supporting you
  • Details of where you will stay

The sponsor and the invitation letter

A good invitation letter is short and clear. It should give the host's full name, address, phone number and status in Australia, their relationship to you, the reason for the visit, your planned dates, where you will stay, and who will pay for what.

Make sure the letter, your form and your itinerary all show the same dates. Small mismatches between what you say and what your sponsor says can raise doubts and lead to a refusal.

Genuine visit: what the department checks

Every visitor must intend a genuine, temporary stay. The officer looks at your whole situation, including:

  • Your job, business or studies in Pakistan
  • Family who stay in Pakistan, such as a spouse or children
  • Your past travel, and whether you followed visa conditions before
  • Whether your funds are enough and clearly explained
  • Whether the length of your trip makes sense for your purpose

Common weak points include sudden deposits with no explanation, an employment letter with no leave approval, a trip that is longer than your job would normally allow, and a past refusal that is not declared. If you were refused before, say so and explain what has changed.

When to apply

Processing times change and depend on each case, so check the current times on the Home Affairs website. Apply well before your travel date, give biometrics as soon as you are asked, and do not make travel plans you cannot change until your visa is granted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get an Australia visit visa from Pakistan without a sponsor?

Yes. The Tourist stream of the Visitor visa (subclass 600) does not need a sponsor. A sponsor is only needed for the Sponsored family stream, where an eligible relative in Australia signs Form 1149.

Which subclass 600 stream should parents use to visit their children in Australia?

Parents can use the Tourist stream with an invitation letter from their child, or the Sponsored family stream if their child is an Australian citizen or permanent resident who signs Form 1149. The Sponsored family stream can involve a security bond and a 'No Further Stay' condition, so read the official stream page before you choose.

Is there an interview for an Australia visit visa?

Usually not. The Department of Home Affairs decides on your online application and documents, but an officer may call you or ask for more information, so answer honestly and consistently.

How much bank balance is required for an Australia visit visa from Pakistan?

The Department of Home Affairs does not publish a fixed amount for visitor visas. You must show enough money for your stay, either your own or your sponsor's, with a clear and steady source.

How long does an Australia visit visa take from Pakistan?

There is no fixed time, and processing times change. Check the current times on the Home Affairs website and apply well before your travel date.

Can an agent guarantee my Australian visa?

No. Only the Department of Home Affairs decides, and no agent can promise a visa or a decision date. IVS helps you choose the right stream and submit a complete, honest file.
