An Australia visa biometrics appointment in Pakistan comes after you apply, not before: you lodge your visa application online in ImmiAccount, then wait for a biometrics request letter from the Department of Home Affairs. The letter gives you a Visa Lodgement Number (VLN) and tells you where and how to give your photo and fingerprints. For most applicants, that means a visit to an Australian biometrics collection centre, usually in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi.

Based on official guidance from the Australian Department of Home Affairs. Last updated October 2026. Visa rules, fees and waiting times change, so always confirm on the official site before you apply, or ask us on WhatsApp for the latest checklist.

Key points

  • Apply first in ImmiAccount. You cannot give biometrics before you lodge your application.
  • Wait for the letter called "Requirement to provide personal identifiers (biometrics)". It contains your VLN.
  • The letter has a deadline. Act as soon as it arrives.
  • Bring the letter and the same passport you used in your application.
  • Some applicants can use the Australian Immi App instead. Your letter tells you.

Step 1: Lodge your application in ImmiAccount

Most Australian visas are applied for online. You create an ImmiAccount on the Department of Home Affairs website, choose your visa, fill in the form, upload your documents and pay the fee. This is how the Visitor visa (subclass 600) and the Student visa (subclass 500) work.

Fees change, so check the current amount on the official Home Affairs website before you pay. For help with the visit visa file itself, read our Australia visit visa guide for Pakistani applicants.

Make sure the passport details in ImmiAccount are correct. The passport you enter here is the passport you must take to your biometrics appointment.

Step 2: Watch for the biometrics request letter

After you lodge, Home Affairs usually sends a letter titled "Requirement to provide personal identifiers (biometrics)". You will find it in your ImmiAccount and in your email. Check your spam folder too.

The letter usually includes:

  • your Visa Lodgement Number (VLN), which you need to book or check in
  • the deadline to give your biometrics
  • where and how to give them
  • whether you may use the Australian Immi App

In a family application, each person who must give biometrics usually gets their own letter. Keep all of them together.

Can you use the Australian Immi App instead?

Home Affairs lets some applicants give biometrics through the Australian Immi App on their phone. The app scans your passport and takes a photo of your face. Your letter tells you if this applies to you. Check the official Home Affairs biometrics page for the current rules.

Follow your letter, not advice from social media. If the app option is not offered to you, you must visit a biometrics centre in person.

Step 3: Get your Australia visa biometrics appointment in Pakistan

In Pakistan, biometrics for Australian visas are usually collected at Australian biometrics collection centres run by a contracted service provider, currently VFS Global, a private company. There are usually centres in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. Applicants from Islamabad and Rawalpindi normally use the Islamabad centre. Confirm the current provider and centre locations on the Home Affairs or Australian High Commission website before you go.

IVS – Islamabad Visa Services is an independent consultancy. We are not linked to VFS Global, the Australian High Commission or the Department of Home Affairs.

Depending on the current rules, you may need to book a slot online, or the centre may accept walk-ins. Before you go, check the official VFS Global website for Australia in Pakistan and follow your letter.

If you need to book online

  1. Open the official VFS Global website for Australia in Pakistan.
  2. Register with an email address you check every day.
  3. Enter your VLN and passport details exactly as they appear in your letter and passport.
  4. Choose the centre, date and time.
  5. Save and print the appointment confirmation.

If walk-ins are accepted

Go on a working day, well within your deadline, with your letter and passport. Arrive early, because walk-in queues can be long.

Booking tips

  • Do not wait until the last days before your deadline.
  • If booking is online, check at different times of day. New slots can appear.
  • Book family members together so you can attend at the same time.
  • If you must change your date, reschedule online instead of missing the appointment.
  • Use only the official website. Do not pay anyone who offers an "urgent slot".

If you cannot attend before your deadline, keep proof of your attempts and contact Home Affairs through the channel given in your letter.

Step 4: What to bring on appointment day

  • Your biometrics request letter, printed.
  • Your valid passport. It must be the same passport used in your ImmiAccount application.
  • Your appointment confirmation, if you booked one.
  • For children: a parent or legal guardian must come with them.

You normally do not need to bring your supporting documents. They are already uploaded in ImmiAccount. Carry only what you need, because there is a security check at the entrance.

Tips for a smooth appointment

  • Avoid henna (mehndi) on your fingertips. It can make your fingerprints hard to read.
  • Religious head coverings are allowed, but your face must be fully visible.
  • You may be asked to remove your glasses for the photo.
  • Arrive a little early and keep your documents in one folder.

At the Australian biometrics collection centre

Staff check your passport and letter. Then they take a digital photo of your face and scan your fingerprints. Young children may only need a photo; your letter will say what is needed.

The biometrics part itself is usually quick. Your biometrics are sent electronically to Home Affairs. Keep any receipt you are given.

After biometrics: health checks, ImmiAccount updates and your grant letter

Home Affairs continues to assess your application. You can check the status in ImmiAccount. Processing times change, so look at the current estimate on the official Home Affairs website.

Home Affairs may ask for more information or for a health examination. If you get a health request, it will include a HAP ID, and you book the exam with an approved panel doctor. Reply to every request before its deadline.

Australian visas are usually granted electronically. You get a grant letter by email instead of a sticker in your passport. Check all details on the grant letter carefully.

What if you miss the deadline?

Act quickly. Contact Home Affairs as your letter explains. If biometrics are not provided, your application can be refused.

Australia biometrics mistakes we see most

  • Not finding the "Requirement to provide personal identifiers (biometrics)" letter in ImmiAccount. It can sit there unread, or the email copy can land in spam, while your deadline runs.
  • Typing the VLN wrongly when booking or checking in. Copy it exactly from the letter, digit by digit.
  • Assuming the Australian Immi App applies to you when your letter does not say so. If the letter does not offer the app, you must go to a collection centre.
  • Getting a new passport after lodging and not updating the passport details in ImmiAccount before your appointment.
  • Paying anyone who offers an "urgent slot". Appointments come only through the official booking or walk-in process.

For official guidance, see the Home Affairs biometrics page. You can also check the official website of the Australian High Commission in Pakistan. Canada applicants follow a similar process; see our Canada biometrics appointment guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need biometrics for an Australian visa from Pakistan?

In most cases, yes. After you lodge your application in ImmiAccount, the Department of Home Affairs sends a letter called "Requirement to provide personal identifiers (biometrics)" that tells you if and how you must give them.

How do I book an Australia biometrics appointment in Pakistan?

Wait for your biometrics request letter, which contains your Visa Lodgement Number (VLN). Then check the official website of the biometrics centre provider for Australia in Pakistan (currently VFS Global; confirm on the Home Affairs or Australian High Commission website) to see whether you must book a slot online or can walk in, and attend a centre, usually in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi, before your deadline.

What documents do I need for my Australian biometrics appointment?

Bring your printed biometrics request letter, the same valid passport you used in your ImmiAccount application, and your appointment confirmation if you booked one. Supporting documents are usually not needed because they are already uploaded online.

Can I give Australian visa biometrics through the Immi App?

Some applicants may be able to use the Australian Immi App. Your biometrics request letter tells you if this option applies to you; if it does not, you must attend a biometrics centre in person. Check the official Home Affairs website for the current rules.

What happens if I miss my Australian biometrics deadline?

Contact the Department of Home Affairs as soon as possible using the channel given in your letter. If biometrics are not provided, your visa application can be refused.

Can anyone sell me an Australia biometrics appointment in Pakistan?

No. Biometrics are given only through the official channel your request letter names: a collection centre, or the Australian Immi App if your letter offers it. No one can guarantee your visa either: only the Department of Home Affairs decides. IVS can help you prepare a complete, honest file and guide you through each step.
