To get a Turkey student visa from Pakistan, you first need an acceptance letter from a Turkish university. You then apply for a student visa (not the e-visa) at the visa application centre that the Turkish Embassy uses in Pakistan. After you arrive in Türkiye, you apply online for a student residence permit through e-İkamet.

Based on official guidance from Study in Türkiye. Last updated October 2026. Visa rules, fees and waiting times change, so always confirm on the official site before you apply, or ask us on WhatsApp for the latest checklist.

Key points

  • Get admission first. You need a university acceptance letter (or a Türkiye Bursları scholarship award) before you apply for the visa.
  • Apply for a student visa. The Turkish e-visa is for short tourist or business trips. It is not the right visa for a degree.
  • In Pakistan, you fill in the visa form online and hand in your file at the visa centre named by the Turkish Embassy, not as a walk-in at the embassy.
  • Prepare attested education documents, clear proof of funds and health insurance.
  • After arrival, apply for a student residence permit on e-İkamet before the deadline.

Who needs a Turkey student visa?

Pakistani citizens who want to study a degree or a university preparatory year in Türkiye need a student visa issued by a Turkish mission before they travel. This applies to bachelor's, master's and PhD students, whether you are self-funded or on a scholarship.

Some Pakistanis can get a Turkish e-visa, for example if they hold a valid US, UK, Schengen or Irish visa or residence permit. But the e-visa is only for tourism or business trips. It cannot be used to study.

The student visa lets you enter Türkiye. It is not the end of the process. Once you are there, you must change your status to a student residence permit. This second step is easy to forget, so plan for it from the start.

Step-by-step: Turkey student visa from Pakistan

  1. Choose your programme. Use the official Study in Türkiye portal, run by Türkiye's Council of Higher Education, to compare public and foundation universities and their entry rules.
  2. Apply for admission. Each university sets its own rules for international students. Some accept FSc or A-level results, some ask for SAT scores or their own entrance exam, and master's programmes may ask for a statement of purpose and reference letters.
  3. Receive your acceptance letter. Check that your name matches your passport exactly and that the programme, start date and language of study are correct.
  4. Prepare your documents. See the checklist below. Get your education documents attested in good time, as this can take longer than you expect.
  5. Fill in the visa application form. In most cases this is done online on the Turkish Foreign Ministry's e-Konsolosluk website (konsolosluk.gov.tr). Print it and sign it.
  6. Hand in your file. Visa applications in Pakistan are received by a private visa centre that the embassy names, not at the embassy counter. Check the current provider and its locations on the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad website before you go, as it can change. Students from Islamabad and Rawalpindi can usually submit in Islamabad.
  7. Wait for the decision. The embassy may ask for more documents or call you for an interview. Do not book non-refundable flights before your visa is issued.
  8. Travel and register at your university. Take your original documents with you, as your university will ask for them during enrolment.
  9. Apply for your student residence permit on e-İkamet soon after you arrive, within the deadline the authorities set.

Documents checklist

The exact list can change, and the visa centre will give you the current one. In most cases, Pakistani students are asked for the following.

Personal documents

  • Passport with enough validity for your trip, plus copies of old passports if you have them
  • Completed visa application form
  • Recent passport-size photos in the required format
  • Copy of your CNIC (or B-Form if you are under 18)

Study documents

  • University acceptance letter, or your Türkiye Bursları award letter
  • Matric and FSc certificates (or O/A-level results) for a bachelor's degree, or your degree and transcripts for a master's
  • Attested copies where needed: IBCC for school certificates and HEC for degrees. Pakistan has joined the Apostille Convention, so your university may also ask for a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) apostille
  • English or Turkish test result if your university asked for one

Financial and other documents

  • Bank statement showing you can pay for your studies and living costs
  • If a parent sponsors you: a sponsorship letter, their bank statement, proof of their income, and proof of your relationship (such as a NADRA Family Registration Certificate)
  • Health insurance for your stay
  • Proof of accommodation, such as a dormitory confirmation
  • Flight reservation (a booking, not a paid ticket)

There is no single "safe" bank balance that anyone can promise. Officers look at whether your funds are enough for your programme, whether the money has a clear source, and whether large deposits are explained. Check the current fee and any funds guidance with the embassy or visa centre before you apply.

Do you need IELTS to study in Türkiye?

It depends on the language of your programme. English-taught programmes often ask for IELTS, TOEFL or the university's own English test. Some accept proof that your earlier studies were in English.

Turkish-taught programmes usually require Turkish language proficiency. Many universities offer a Turkish preparatory year for students who do not speak Turkish yet. Check your offer letter carefully, because a preparatory year affects how long you will stay.

Scholarships: Türkiye Bursları

Türkiye Bursları is the Turkish government's scholarship programme for international students at bachelor's, master's and PhD level. It is competitive, and applications usually open once a year. Dates and conditions are published on the official Türkiye Bursları website.

If you win a scholarship, your award letter becomes a key document for your visa. Scholarship students still need a student visa and a residence permit.

After you arrive: the student residence permit

Your student visa is only the first step. After arrival, you apply for a student residence permit through the Presidency of Migration Management's e-İkamet system. You fill in the form online, book an appointment, and attend with your documents.

There is a strict deadline after you enter Türkiye, so apply soon after you arrive. Your university's international office can usually confirm the deadline and tell you which documents to bring, such as your student certificate, passport, photos, address details and health insurance.

Can Pakistani students work in Türkiye?

Work options for international students are limited. The student residence permit alone does not allow you to work. You need a separate work permit, and it is normally applied for by the employer, not by you.

Under current rules, bachelor's students can usually only work part-time, and only after their first year. Master's and PhD students have more freedom. Plan your budget on the basis that you will not earn money while studying.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Travelling on a tourist e-visa and hoping to switch later
  • Names spelled differently on your passport, certificates and acceptance letter
  • Large, unexplained deposits in the bank statement just before applying
  • Leaving IBCC or HEC attestation until the last week
  • Missing the residence permit deadline after arrival
  • Paying anyone who claims they can "buy" a visa. Forged visas and documents are a crime and can lead to a refusal or an entry ban

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I study in Turkey with an e-visa?

No. The Turkish e-visa is only for tourism or business trips, and Pakistanis can get it only in certain cases, such as holding a valid US, UK, Schengen or Irish visa. To study, you need a student visa from a Turkish mission and then a student residence permit after you arrive.

Where do I apply for a Turkey student visa in Pakistan?

You fill in the visa form online and hand in your file at the visa application centre named by the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad, not as a walk-in at the embassy. Check the embassy website for the current provider and its locations before you go.

Is IELTS required for a Turkey student visa?

Not for the visa itself, but your university may ask for it. English-taught programmes often ask for IELTS, TOEFL or the university's own test, while Turkish-taught programmes usually need Turkish proficiency or a preparatory year.

How much bank balance is required for a Turkey student visa?

There is no fixed figure that anyone can promise. Your funds should clearly cover your studies and living costs and come from an explained source, so check the current guidance with the embassy or visa centre before applying.

Do international students need a residence permit in Turkey?

Yes. After arriving in Türkiye, students must apply for a student residence permit on the e-İkamet system within the deadline set by the authorities. Your university's international office can confirm the deadline and the documents you need.

Can an agent guarantee a Turkey student visa?

No. Only the Turkish Embassy or Consulate decides on your visa. IVS can check that your file is complete, consistent and well presented, but no one can guarantee the result.
