UK Universities Not Accepting Pakistani Students? What 2027 Applicants Should Do Now
Some UK universities are not accepting Pakistani students right now, but the UK has not banned Pakistani students. On 10 October 2026, ProPakistani reported that 15 UK universities had suspended recruitment from Pakistan, while the UK Student visa itself is still open to Pakistani applicants. If you hold an offer for January or September 2027, ask your university in writing whether it will issue you a CAS before you pay a deposit.
Based on official guidance from GOV.UK (Student visa). Last updated October 2026. Visa rules, fees and waiting times change, so always confirm on the official site before you apply, or ask us on WhatsApp for the latest checklist.
Key points
- There is no UK ban on Pakistani students. Student visa applications are open.
- Some universities have paused or limited recruitment from Pakistan, sometimes for one intake or one level of study only.
- Reports link this to the Home Office's Basic Compliance Assessment (BCA), whose visa refusal-rate limit for universities fell from 10% to 5%.
- Before you pay a deposit, get written confirmation that the university will issue you a CAS, and read its refund policy, including what happens if it withdraws your offer or CAS later.
- Prepare hard for the credibility interview. Every answer must match your documents.
This guide from IVS – Islamabad Visa Services explains what is happening, what to check before you pay anything, and what to do if your university says no. For the full application process, see our UK student visa guide.
Are UK universities not accepting Pakistani students in 2026?
Some aren't. ProPakistani's report put the number at 15, and earlier reports, from December 2025 to March 2026, had already described pauses at several universities. They don't all look the same:
- A full stop on new applications from Pakistan.
- A pause for undergraduate courses only, or for one intake such as January.
- An informal limit. Reports say that in some cases nothing was announced, but Pakistani students simply did not receive a CAS.
Several earlier pauses had an end date, such as "until autumn 2026". A university that paused last year may be open again, and one that was open in the summer may have paused since. That is why we don't publish a list of names: a list copied from a news story can be wrong within weeks. The answer that counts is the university's own, in writing.
Why UK universities are pausing Pakistani applicants
Every university that sponsors international students goes through the Home Office's Basic Compliance Assessment. It looks at the university's visa refusal rate, how many students fail to enrol and how many don't finish their course. A university that fails risks its sponsor licence, and without it, it can't take any international students.
Reports say the refusal-rate limit fell from 10% to 5%. Reports based on Home Office data, including the Financial Times, put the refusal rate for Pakistani student applicants well above that. With the limit halved, each refusal uses up twice as much of a university's margin, so some chose to stop or cut back recruitment from Pakistan.
So universities now judge the risk before they issue a CAS, and your file has to be stronger than it was a year ago.
Have an offer? Check these before you pay a deposit
- Ask in writing. Email the international admissions team: "Will you issue a CAS to Pakistani applicants for [course] starting [January / September] 2027?" A verbal yes at an education fair in Islamabad, or a WhatsApp message from a recruitment agent, is not enough.
- Read the refund policy. Ask what happens to your deposit if the university stops recruiting from Pakistan, doesn't issue your CAS, or your visa is refused. Keep the reply.
- Ask what happens if they withdraw it later. Reports this year say some universities revoked offers and even withdrew CAS letters after issuing them, so ask in writing how a withdrawal would affect your deposit and tuition payment.
- Check the sponsor register. The university must appear on the Home Office register of licensed student sponsors.
- Ask for the timeline: the interview date, when CAS letters go out for your intake, and the deposit deadline.
If your university has already paused, ask about deferral or a refund before paying anyone else. A "pay today or lose your seat" message is a reason to slow down.

Tell us your university, course and intake. A consultant will look at your offer letter, funds evidence and study plan, tell you what to ask the university, and point out the gaps that often get student files refused. Only the university decides on your CAS and only the Home Office decides your visa; our job is to make your file complete, consistent and honest.
January 2027 or September 2027: which intake?
For January 2027, time is short. Before the visa application you need the university's written answer, a CAS, a TB test certificate from a Home Office-approved clinic and funds that meet the rules. If any of these is uncertain, ask about deferring to September.
September 2027 gives you room to pick a university that is clearly recruiting from Pakistan, keep your funds in place for the required period, and compare other countries. For many students, that is worth more than an earlier start.
How to prepare for a UK credibility interview
Many UK universities interview Pakistani applicants before they issue a CAS, and the Home Office may also interview you after you apply. Both ask one question: are you a genuine student who can pay for this course?
Know your course and your university
Name the modules that interest you and explain how the course follows from your studies in Pakistan. "It has a good ranking" is not a reason. If there is a gap since your last degree, explain it and bring proof, such as an employment letter and salary slips.
Know your costs and where the money came from
State your tuition fee, the deposit paid, your living costs and who is paying. If a large amount entered the account recently, from a plot sale or a committee payout, carry the documents that explain it. The Home Office sets how much you must show and for how long: see GOV.UK's Student visa money page.
Know your career plan, and keep answers consistent
Say what you want to do after the course and how this degree helps. Interviewers compare your answers with your statement of purpose, CAS and bank statements, so answer honestly, in your own words, and practise out loud with someone who asks follow-up questions.
Mistakes that cost Pakistani students their place
- Funds in a brother's, uncle's or friend's account. Those don't count. Use your own account or a parent's or legal guardian's (with their consent letter and proof of relationship). If you have an official sponsor or scholarship, you need their letter. GOV.UK's Student visa money page lists every accepted case.
- A big, unexplained deposit just before the statement date.
- A statement of purpose written by someone else, which you can't explain in the interview.
- CAS details (name, passport number, course dates) that don't match your passport and documents.
Should you still choose the UK?
For many students, yes: the UK still offers one-year master's degrees, and Pakistani students are still getting Student visas. But weigh your university's written position and the Graduate Route. Reports say it falls from two years to 18 months for most bachelor's and master's graduates who apply from 1 January 2027; check GOV.UK's Graduate visa page before you decide.
Alternatives to UK study for Pakistani students
IVS also helps with these student visas. Every country checks that you are a genuine student with real funds, so a weak file won't become strong just by changing country.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are UK universities still accepting Pakistani students in 2026?
Yes, but not all of them. The UK has not banned Pakistani students and Student visa applications are open, but reports say some universities have paused or limited recruitment from Pakistan. Ask your university in writing whether it will issue you a CAS for your intake.
Which UK universities have stopped accepting Pakistani students?
News reports since December 2025 have named several, but many pauses were time-limited or covered only one intake or course level, so any list goes out of date quickly. Check the university's own website and ask its admissions team in writing. Send us your university and intake on WhatsApp and we will help you work out what to ask.
Why are UK universities suspending recruitment from Pakistan?
Reports link it to the Home Office's Basic Compliance Assessment, which checks each university's visa refusal rate. Reports say the limit fell from 10% to 5% and that refusal rates for Pakistani student applicants are well above that, so some universities paused recruitment to protect their sponsor licence.
Will I get my deposit back if my UK university pauses recruitment?
It depends on the university's refund policy. Before you pay, ask in writing what happens to your deposit if the university stops recruiting from Pakistan, doesn't issue your CAS, or your visa is refused.
What is a UK credibility interview?
It is an interview, usually held by the university before it issues a CAS, to check that you are a genuine student who understands your course and can pay for it. The Home Office may also interview you after you apply. Keep every answer honest and consistent with your documents.
Is it too late for the UK January 2027 intake from Pakistan?
Not necessarily, but time is short. Before you apply you need the university's written confirmation, a CAS, a TB test certificate from an approved clinic and funds that meet the Home Office rules. If any of these is uncertain, ask about deferring to September 2027.
Can an agent promise me a visa?
No. Only the UK Home Office decides your visa, and only your university decides whether to issue a CAS. An honest agent can check that your file is complete, consistent and truthful and help you prepare for interviews.
