If your Schengen visa was refused from Pakistan, start with the refusal form. Check which boxes are ticked, read the "Remarks" line, and find the appeal section, which says where you can appeal and by when. A refusal is not a ban: you can appeal within that time limit, or apply again with a file that answers every ticked reason.

Below, IVS – Islamabad Visa Services explains each standard reason in plain English, with the fix for a Pakistani file.

Based on official guidance from the European Commission. Last updated October 2026. Visa rules, fees and waiting times change, so always confirm on the official site before you apply, or ask us on WhatsApp for the latest checklist.

Key points

  • A refusal is not a ban, and there is no fixed waiting period before you apply again.
  • The appeal route and time limit come from the law of the country that refused you, and are printed on your form.
  • German embassy notices say Germany ended its remonstration step in July 2025.
  • Fix every ticked reason before you reapply, and declare the refusal whenever a form asks.

Why so many Schengen visas are refused from Pakistan

Reports in ProPakistani and Pakistan Observer (July 2026) say Schengen countries refused about 40,000 applications from Pakistani citizens in 2025, a refusal rate of roughly 46%.

Many files fail because they don't hang together: a two-week holiday in the cover letter, one week in the leave letter, a large deposit nobody explains.

How to read your Schengen refusal form

Under Article 32 of the EU Visa Code, every refusal comes on the same standard form (the code's Annex VI). Look for:

  • The ticked boxes. Often more than one; fix each.
  • "Remarks". If the embassy wrote anything here, it tells you more than the box does.
  • The appeal section: who to appeal to, how, and the time limit.

Box numbers differ between versions of the form, so go by the words, not the number.

Schengen visa refusal reasons, and the fix for a Pakistani file

Purpose and conditions of the stay not justified

The officer couldn't see why you are going or how the trip works. Fix: a day-by-day itinerary, bookings for every night, and a cover letter that states the purpose. For a family visit, add the invitation and your host's residence permit; for business, the European company's invitation and your employer's letter. Keep the same dates on the form, bookings, insurance and leave letter.

Information not reliable, or doubts about your documents

The officer didn't believe something: hotel bookings cancelled soon after the appointment, a salary letter that doesn't match the bank credits, or a "friend's" invitation with no real plan. Fix: only genuine documents that can be checked, and a cover-letter line for anything unusual, such as a new job. Never use a borrowed statement or a letter from a company you don't work for. Schengen countries share visa decisions through the Visa Information System, so doubts about your documents follow you to the next embassy.

Not enough proof of money for the trip

Each country sets its own daily amount (see your embassy's checklist), and this box can also mean the source of the money was unclear. Fix: statements for the months your checklist asks for, a bank maintenance letter, salary slips that match the credits, and FBR returns if you run a business. If family pays, add their statements, a sponsor letter and your NADRA Family Registration Certificate. Explain any large deposit before the officer asks.

Doubts that you will leave before the visa expires

This box is about your ties to Pakistan. Fix: a leave letter with your return date, proof of your job or business (NTN, registration, tax returns), property papers if you have them, and your family situation in the cover letter. Earlier visas used properly, such as UK, Turkey or Malaysia trips, help. A short, well-planned first trip beats a long one on a modest income.

Travel medical insurance missing or not adequate

Fix: cover for the whole Schengen area and every day of the trip, including emergency medical care, hospital treatment and repatriation, with at least €30,000 of cover, in the same name, passport number and dates as your application.

Earlier stays: your 90 days are used up

A short-stay visa allows up to 90 days in any 180-day period, counting earlier stays. Count your days from your entry and exit dates before you plan the trip.

The rarer boxes

A forged travel document, an alert in the Schengen Information System or a security concern are serious grounds that a new application rarely fixes. Get legal advice in the country that refused you first.

Send us a photo of your Schengen refusal form on WhatsApp, with your passport number and photo covered. A consultant will go through each ticked box with you and tell you which documents could answer it. Only the embassy decides; we make your file complete, consistent and honest.

Schengen visa appeal from Pakistan: how it works

The Visa Code gives every refused applicant the right to appeal, against the country that refused the visa and under that country's own law. So there is no single Schengen process: some countries start with a written objection to the embassy or a ministry, others send you to a review board or a court.

Your form says where to send the appeal, how, and by when, and that printed time limit is the one that counts. Check what language the appeal must be in. A court case usually needs a lawyer in that country.

Germany visa refused: what to do now

Germany used to offer a free "remonstration", a written request to look at the decision again. German embassy notices say the Federal Foreign Office ended it worldwide on 1 July 2025, leaving a new application at any time or a case at the Administrative Court in Berlin, in German and with court costs. Check your form and the German Embassy Islamabad's short-stay visa page, and be wary of anyone still offering to file one for you.

Appeal or reapply: which is better?

Appeal when the officer clearly missed something that was in your file, such as a leave letter treated as missing, and you can wait: time limits are strict, you may need a lawyer and a translation, and answers can be slow.

Reapply when the file really was thin, your trip is soon, or new documents can answer the ticked reasons. You pay the visa fee again, but you can fix every reason.

How to reapply for a Schengen visa after refusal

  • Answer every ticked box. List each reason and the document that answers it. The same file sent to the same embassy usually gets the same answer.
  • Apply to your real main destination, the country of your longest stay or main purpose: see which Schengen country to apply to from Pakistan. Don't switch to an "easier" country: the next embassy can see your refusal, and an itinerary built around the wrong country falls apart at the first question.
  • Declare the refusal if the form, the checklist or the officer asks. Attach a copy and add a short paragraph to your cover letter on what has changed.
  • Rebuild from the official checklist. Our Schengen visit visa guide has the full document list, and our Schengen appointment booking guide explains where each country takes applications.

Mistakes that lead to a second refusal: missing the appeal time limit, paying someone who promises a visa "this time", or swapping a weak bank statement for an "arranged" one.

Does a Schengen refusal affect UK, US or Canada applications?

Not automatically: each country decides under its own rules. But the UK and Canadian forms ask whether any country has refused you a visa, so answer yes and give the details. For a US visa, answer every refusal question truthfully. Hiding a refusal can be treated as a false statement, which does more damage than the refusal itself.

Keep your job title, income and family details the same on every application. See our UK visit visa documents checklist and our Canada visitor visa refusal guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Schengen visa was refused from Pakistan. What should I do first?

Read your refusal form: note every ticked box, the Remarks line and the appeal section with its time limit. A refusal is not a ban, so decide whether to appeal or apply again with a stronger file before that time limit passes.

Can I appeal a Schengen visa refusal from Pakistan?

Yes. The EU Visa Code gives every refused applicant the right to appeal, but the route and time limit come from the law of the country that refused you and are printed on your refusal form. A court appeal usually needs a lawyer in that country.

How soon can I reapply after a Schengen visa refusal?

The Visa Code sets no fixed waiting period. Apply again when you can answer every ticked reason with new or better documents, because the same file usually gets the same answer.

Does a Schengen visa refusal affect my UK visa application?

Not automatically, because the UK decides under its own rules. But the UK form asks about refusals by any country, so declare it and keep your details consistent. Hiding a refusal does far more damage than the refusal itself.

Can I apply to a different Schengen country after a refusal?

Only if that country is really your main destination, where you will stay longest or where the main purpose of your trip is. Schengen countries share visa decisions through the Visa Information System, so the new embassy can see your refusal.

Schengen visa reject kyun hota hai?

Aksar is liye ke trip ka maqsad wazeh nahi hota, bank statement aur income ki kahani match nahi karti, ya officer ko yaqeen nahi hota ke aap Pakistan wapas aayenge. Apne refusal form par tick kiye gaye boxes dekhein aur har wajah ka jawab asli documents se dein, phir dobara apply karein.

Can an agent promise me a visa?

No — only the embassy decides, and nobody can sell you a visa or an appointment. An honest consultant can read your refusal form with you and help make your next file complete, consistent and honest.
